Stray Pets Rescue Club: cats Leah and Sox and Cynthia the dog need a loving home

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of animals in and around the Harrogate district, in desperate need of a loving home. Could Leah, Cynthia or Sox find their new family with you?

Leah – Short Haired Cat

Age: Approx 6 years old

Leah’s story: When Leah came to Harrogate Cat Rescue, she was terrified of humans and it became clear she had been abused. Through care and patience she is now affectionate once she gets to know you.

Temperament: Leah may be a little nervous at first, but loves being stroked and fussed and will always come for her favourite Dreamie treats.

Ideal home: Leah will ned a safe place while she settles into her new home, like a covered bed. She has never been outside so needs to remain as an indoor cat.

To find out more about Leah and how you can help, contact Celia at Harrogate Cat Rescue on 07749 461042

Cynthia – dog

Age: Approx 2 years old

Cynthia’s story: Cynthia arrived at Miss Mollies Rescue from Romania where she had been rescued from the streets.

Temperament: Before arriving in Harrogate, Cynthia hadn’t had any training and was very anxious. She’s now gained her confidence, can do basic commands and walks well on a lead.

Ideal home: Cynthia’s new home needs a nice garden, and children must be over 12. She can be homed with another dog, and will need an owner who is around a lot of the time with the patience to help her gain more confidence.

If Cynthia could become part of your family, get in touch with Miss Mollie’s Rescue

Sox – Short Haired Cat

Age: 7 years old

Sox’s story: Sox is looking for a long term foster home. Although he is fit and well, he does have epilepsy, which is controlled by medication. He hasn’t had a seizure for over a year though, so it’s well controlled.

Temperament: Sox is a happy, friendly boy who has lived with a calm dog before.

Ideal home: Sox needs a long term foster home; all of his veterinary bills will be covered by Harrogate Cat Rescue, who will also fully support the fosterer. Once he’s settled in, he will be able to have a wander outside in a safe environment.

If you could be a foster carer for Sox, contact Celia at Harrogate Cat Rescue on 07749 461042.

Stray Pets Rescue Club: the 8ft boa, and pair of bulldogs needing your help

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of animals in and around the Harrogate district, in desperate need of a loving home. Could you help Fudge, Zena or Otis find a new family?

Fudge – Boa Constrictor

Age: Approx 8 years old

Fudge’s story: Fudge is an 8ft snake who has been living at K’rescue in Knaresborough for a long time now, and all she needs is a loving home. She was signed over by her previous owner because she got too big.

Temperament: As you can see from the photo, Fudge loves coming out of her enclosure for play time. She also enjoys eating her weekly jumbo rat.

Ideal home: Fudge will need an enclosure at least 6ft, around 30°C at the hot end and in the 20’s at the cold end. She will also need a big water bowl to get into.

If your family has space for Fudge, you can visit K’rescue Knaresborough’s Facebook page or call them on 07837 445352.

Zena – American Bulldog

Age: 5 years old

Zena’s story: Zena came to the RSPCA York, Harrogate & District branch via an inspector after her needs were not being met.She has hip dysplasia and spondylosis of her spine – but is on daily pain medication which means she can continue to enjoy life.

Temperament: Zena can find new situations and people a bit daunting, and can be quite shy and timid. Once you’ve earned her trust, she loves nothing more than spending time with you and getting as much fuss as she can.

Ideal home: A family full of patience and understanding to help Zena settle in, and she loves cuddles, food and going for walks. Zena can live with children over 14, can be left alone for short periods, and may be able to live with another dog.

Find out more about Zena and the adoption process at RSPCA York, Harrogate & District branch.

Otis – English Bulldog

Age: Approx 2-5 years old

Otis’s story: Otis has been with Dogs Trust Leeds for quite some time. When he first arrived, his world fell apart and he became anxious, which manifested in humping and lead-grabbing. Otis has done brilliantly in his training, and is more than ready to take the next step into his forever home.

Temperament: Otis has learnt some great coping strategies from the training and behaviour team at Dogs Trust. He is good around other dogs, but will settle best as the only pet initially. He is also worried about heavy traffic, so doesn’t want to live or walk directly on a main road.

Ideal home: Otis will need a family who are interested in training to continue the great stuff he’s already learnt – but he comes with bags of potential. Adopters should live within an hour of the Leeds rehoming centre to be able to go for lots of visits, and need to be aware that Otis has a skin condition and anxiety – so there will be additional veterinary costs.

If your home is missing an Otis, get in touch with Dogs Trust Leeds.

Stray Pets Rescue Club: Ernie, Toby and Amber are looking for a loving home

The Stray Pets Rescue Club is our monthly profile of Harrogate animals in desperate need of a loving home. Could you help Ernie, Toby, or Amber?

Ernie

Age: Ernie’s passport says he is eight, but he could be older.

Ernie’s story: Ernie arrived at Miss Mollie’s Rescue from Romania, about five weeks ago. The team at Miss Mollie’s think he had a hard life before being rescued. He is stiff on his legs and has a nasty scar on his face, but since arriving in Harrogate he has been taking joint tablets and is improving every day.

Temperament: Ernie shares his kennel with another dog, and likes being around dogs. He has started enjoying walks but his favourite things are rolling in the grass, sitting in the sun, his dinner and his bed.

Ideal home: Ernie would be well suited to an owner who is happy to have short walks. He would love to have a garden and a cosy place to chill out.

If your family has space for Ernie, contact Miss Mollie’s Rescue

Toby

Age: 16.

Toby’s backstory: Toby is looking for a long-term foster home. He is currently living alone at Harrogate Cat Rescue, after his owners became unable to look after him. Toby isn’t in the best of health and is suffering from liver disease. He is stable on antibiotics.

Temperament: Toby is an affectionate, laid-back boy. He loves nothing more than sitting on your knee, or watching the world go by from a sunny window ledge.

Ideal home: Toby will benefit from regular, gentle brushing and companionship. All his food and veterinary treatment will continue to be paid for by Harrogate Cat Rescue.

If you could be a foster carer for Toby, contact Celia at Harrogate Cat Rescue on 07749 461042.

Amber

Age: Three.

Amber’s story: This labrador cross lurcher’s previous owners lost their home in a fire and could not take her (and her sister Jade) to where they were staying.

Temperament: Amber is incredibly friendly and energetic. She can be bouncy and excitable when she is playing, so will benefit from someone taking the time to train her and take her on lots of walks.

Ideal home: Amber loves to chase small, fluffy things, so needs a secure garden (where she can’t run off chasing rabbits) and a home with no cats. Because Amber is so energetic, she needs to live with adults and older children. She can live with another dog that is happy to be around her lively personality.

If Amber could be the perfect fit in your home, visit Saving Yorkshire’s Dogs.
