A Mediterranean café has opened on Beulah Street in Harrogate.
Tulip Café has set up in the former Sirius Café site and aims to offer Mediterranean flair serving coffee and scones alongside Turkish tea and sucuklu toast.
The owners of Tulip, Aydan Eski and Karen Ula, decided to set up their business venture in the heart of Harrogate.
Ms Eksi, is originally from Bodrum and Ms Ula has always lived in Harrogate with her husband, Mehmet Ula, owner of Woodlands Car Wash And Valeting.
The site has undergone refurbishments costing approximately £5,000, from painting throughout and new signage to upgrading the kitchen equipment.
Ms Ula previously worked at Rosset High School and said the café is not a huge change as she “loves working and talking to people”.
She said:
“We are in a great location, Beulah Street is nice and busy and right in the centre, and there is a great community here. Our products are homemade and we try to source things locally.
“We chose to go Mediterranean because it is huge, we didn’t want to limit ourselves just to Turkish products.”
The café stocks tea from True Tea and its bouquets of Tulips come from Blamey’s Florist of Harrogate.
Alongside the local produce the pair are selling traditional Mediterranean souvenirs including rose jam, olive butter and evil eye jewellery.
Ms Eksi added:
“It was important for us that we didn’t take over retail space, we chose to set up in a café that was already here, and it means it is good for Harrogate and Sirius customers can come back.
“We are trying to get people to try our Turkish foods, such as the suckuk (Turkish sauasage) but of course we have English things too like the the scones.”

New pharmacy coming to Harrogate’s Beulah Street
Proposals to create a pharmacy and retail unit at a former William Hill bookmakers in Harrogate have been approved.
Leeds-based The Pharmacy Group submitted a planning application to Harrogate Borough Council to convert the boarded-up unit on the town’s Beulah Street.
It will see the bookies, which has been closed for some time, converted into a shop and the unit facing Station Parade converted into a pharmacy.
Office space will also be created in the space above the pharmacy.

Harrogate Borough Council has now approved the plan.
The developer said in documents submitted to the council that the proposal would bring “positive benefits” to the area.
It said:
“The change of use from turf accountants to retail and offices and the proposed redevelopment of the site will bring positive benefits to the area by maintaining, enhancing and giving new life to a key property on both Beulah Street and Station Parade.”

Harrogate’s Pots2Go to re-open in new town centre shop tomorrow
Ceramic cafe Pots2Go will reopen in a new, larger shop on Harrogate’s Beulah Street tomorrow.
The shop, previously located on Montpellier Parade, closed on Christmas Eve to prepare for the move into new premises.
Owner Zoë Hill said they had outgrown the old shop and now had 13 tables instead of just five.
Customers can now enjoy pottery painting, children’s parties and coffee and cake in more spacious surroundings.
It also means customers can just walk-in whereas limited space in the old shop meant booking was essential.
The upstairs area includes two benches for people to paint alone or in small groups.
The shop still offers a range of children’s activities, including make-a-bear sessions, slime and foam clay parties.
Ms Hill said:
“We’re really excited, obviously it’s a massive risk but we had to just go for it. We’ve got lots of bookings so it hasn’t put anyone off.”

Ms Hill and her husband, Dave took over the business four years ago and coronavirus forced them to find new business avenues, such as at-home kits and holding parties at outside venues.
Ms Hill will have seven members of staff working alongside her and hopes to keep collection time to five-to-seven days.
“There’s so much more we could do with the business, especially now we have more staff. I’m hoping it will allow me to take a step back and look at other avenues.
“The last two years have been a nightmare, open and shut, open and shut it wasn’t easy. This is a fresh start.”
The shop reopens tomorrow at 10am.
The upstairs area alone is bigger than the previous shop.
North Yorkshire Police has put out an appeal for information following a burglary at a jewellers in Harrogate town centre.
At 2.30am on Friday last week, Browns Family Jewellers on Beulah Street was broken into.
Police said today they were keen to hear from anyone with information, especially in relation to two people seen on bikes around Station Parade and Beulah Street.
Police are also keen to find the owner of a large black ratchet jack, a tool often used to lift heavy equipment, that was left at the scene.
It is not yet known the value of the items taken.

Overnight break-in at Harrogate jewellery shopPolice are investigating after thieves smashed their way into a jewellery shop in Harrogate overnight.
Browns Family Jewellers on Beulah Street has been a hive of police activity today with officers carrying out investigations. The jewellers was broken into at 2.30am this morning.
This afternoon passers-by could still see the crime scene investigation team gathering evidence while staff tried to clean up smashed glass.
At this time it is unclear how much jewellery, if anything, the suspects managed to take from the shop.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
“I can confirm that the intruder and fire alarms, due to a smashed window and the presence of smoke in the property, activated at 2.28am today.
“It appears that the suspects entered the building but it is not yet clear if anything was taken.
“CCTV and forensic examinations are ongoing along with neighbourhood enquiries.”
