Harrogate Triathlon Club is set to host the Harrogate Triathlon once again in April.

About 350 people have already signed up to take part in the event, which is based at Ashville College and combines swimming, cycling and running.

The event caters for all levels of competitors as there are four options.

The sprint, which consists of a 420m pool swim, a 24km bike ride passing through Beckwithshaw and Burn Bridge and a 4.6km run, is aimed at more serious competitors although anyone can enter.

The swim, bike, run event, which is designed more for beginners, consists of a 180m swim, 12km bike and 2.3km run.

The cycling route

The mixed relay sees teams of three each take on one of the disciplines. The swim leg is a 380m pool swim. The bike leg is 24km (11-mile) bike ride on an open road course and the run leg is a 4.6km (2.9m) run.

There is also a junior aquathlon for ages 8-16, which involves swimming and running elements of variable distances depending on age.

Club chair Jon Chamberlain said:

“Triathlon is a great way to get active through swimming, cycling and running. It’s a varied sport that keeps being active, interesting and fun.

“Our swim, bike, run event is the ideal way for people new to the sport to try it for the first time.”

The event will begin and end at Ashville College, with the routes taking participants around parts of the town.

Race director Paul Dunn, added:

“I’m really pleased to be helping Harrogate Tri Club with this year’s race. My first triathlon was in 2022 here in Harrogate with Harrogate Tri Club.

“We’re keen to encourage people to lead an active lifestyle and participating in a local friendly triathlon event is a great way to do that.”
